KraftPal is on a mission to establish new sectors within the pallet industry as an environmentally friendly alternative to existing products.
Reduce Carbon Dioxide Emissions
A targeted 80% reduction of CO2 emissions by the year 2050 was announced at the CEPI annual meeting. This is the European Commission’s roadmap launched in March 2011 working towards a low-carbon bio-economy.
Trends
Evolving trends & realities in EU markets
Launched in March 2011, the Kyoto Memorandum is the EC Roadmap basis for working towards a low-carbon bio-economy. In accordance with their existing laws, EU countries must implement those requirements into their national legal systems, the objective being an 80% reduction of carbon dioxide emissions by 2050.
Part of the objective is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions through packaging and other industry standards. Packaging, including pallets will need to meet all future determined environmental aspects, such as being pest; insecticide; bacteria; virus and other health-risk factors free.
Cardboard pallets being made from recyclable material are labelled as organic products. Corrugated-cardboard is one of the greatest inventions of the 20th century, providing huge benefits to industry in general.
Industries are looking to reduce the number of logistical operations for goods, from production through to the point of sale.
The corrugated-cardboard pallet trend has also been confirmed by one of the world’s largest furniture producers - IKEA. In March 2012, IKEA replaced wood-pallets weighing 25 kilos, with “one-time” use corrugated-cardboard pallets, weighing just 3 kilos!
Corrugated-cardboard is one of the few packaging materials approved by the European Commission, for packaging and packaging waste.
